DURHAM — Charlotte Knights starter Jordan Stephens threw six shutout innings in a 6-2 victory against the Durham Bulls in International League baseball Tuesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Bulls (36-26) were held to five hits as their five-game winning streak ended in the opener of the two-game series.
Stephens (3-2) struck out seven and walked two. Aaron Bummer and Jeanmar Gomez each threw a shutout inning before Justin Williams’ two-out ninth-inning homer off Gregory Infante broke up the shutout bid. The Knights are 28-35.
Matt Skole’s solo home run in the third inning opened the scoring off Bulls starter Andrew Moore (1-1), who lasted 4 1/3 innings and wasn’t charged with another earned run.
Durham’s Kean Wong had two singles.
