Fun new terms to review during this pandemic.
Herd – a term normally allocated to animals. A herd is comprised of young and old, sick and healthy and survives based on the idea that if attacked by predators, the sick and old would be lost, not the young and healthy. This ensures survival of the strongest.
Immunity – the ability to fight something internal, based on your biological make-up and may be dependent upon having a form of what attacks already in your system, possibly through vaccination or previous exposure.
Police state – an environment where individual rights are no longer viable and control is administered through policing.
Hair cut/color/treatment – a dangerous activity that will cause immediate combustion where all involved will burst into flames and explode.
Protest – the ability to gather together in groups of people from various areas, with little to no social distancing to prove that you are smart enough to social distance yourself.
Teacher – soon to be rated the most important person in society, far higher on the ladder than any sports figure, poorly paid and underappreciated and most likely laughing at every stressed parent secretly inside.
Politician – a person caught between a rock and a hard place, hoping the next decision is going the help and not harm, but throwing the dice to make those decisions.
ABC and liquor stores – an essential business that will show amazing profits for this quarter during the stay at home requirement. Most of these facilities will soon be offering a “help hotline” to assure new clients they are not alcoholics, but just dealing with stress, which is obviously bad for you.
Banks – A collection of people that are working with very frustrated people trying to obtain the imaginary loans being made available to self-employed and small business owners.
Cleaning – at no other time in history have people done so much cleaning in homes and businesses. If you haven’t done this, don’t worry, only about 50% of people and businesses are really doing this, don’t believe everything you see on Facebook.
Gardens – a new idea to put in your yard. Something that will produce edible items and look and smell wonderful. Keep this one going, there is no down side to a good garden.
U-Tube – the magic wizard of OZ for those starting home projects with no real skill set.
Stress – An emotion that comes and goes in waves, often calmed by standing in the sunshine and taking a deep breath.
Money – a once predominantly paper device that controls our lives. Now currency can also be electronic and therefore magical.
Toilet paper – the life-saving essential item no one knew about before.
Remember knowledge is power, take this time to calm down and breathe, understand the world as we know it will be different, at least for a while, and that’s okay.
