FAYETTEVILLE - William Ernest "Bill" Hicks, 82, of Fayetteville, died Friday, April 13, 2018 in his home surrounded by his friends and family. Mr. Hicks was retired after proudly serving in the US Army for 22 years. He was a decorated veteran of two tours in Vietnam, a tour in Thailand, and three tours in Germany. He was very honored to serve his country. After retirement, Bill continued to serve through Civil Service at Fort Bragg for over 20 years. He was often proudly wearing his Vietnam hat and ring. Mr. Hicks was a loving family man. He is survived by his wife, Louise, with whom he was married for 61 years. He adored Louise since that Christmas day they met in 1955. Bill was the father of three adoring sons Michael (wife, Debra), Brian, and Steven (wife, Sue). He was "Pappaw" to six grandchildren, Hunter, Jordan, Joshua, Rebecca, Thomas, and Amber. He was very proud of them and was frequently their biggest fan at ballgames and various events. Their favorite hobby was to enjoy an ice cream together. He loved watching Westerns and taking trips with his sister-in-law Martha and her husband Tommy. Bill was one of the most loving and adoring men that you could ever know. Everyone loved Bill. Despite his many illnesses, he never once complained and always had a grin on his face. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17 at 1100 to 1:00 at Arran Lake Baptist Church. Celebration of Life service will be held following visitation at the church officiated by Rev. Jeff Isenhour. Burial will take place at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
