The Town of North Topsail Beach Board of Aldermen will hold a special meeting on Thursday, and one of the topics of discussion is whether to add paid parking to public beach accesses.
Interim Town Manager Dave Gilbride confirmed the topic and added it will not affect the county maintained beach accesses.
Gilbride added the reason for the discussion is because the town is responsible for 100% of the costs to maintain the beaches.
"Basically the cost of maintaining the beaches and its amenities, even the county portions, fall on the backs of the taxpayers," said Gilbride. "Those require trash removal, porta potties, police, fire, and ocean rescue and we have to be able to generate revenue somewhere."

Residents of NTB would not have to pay to park as Gilbridge explained they would be able to use their hurricane reentry passes in order to avoid receiving a ticket.
The meeting will be broadcast live on the Town of North Topsail Beach, NC Facebook page beginning at 3:30 p.m. To attend, you may register online by visiting ntbnc.org and clicking the register link on the town’s home page or on the agenda for the meeting.
Rules for those who wish to make public comments for the virtual meeting are noted on the town’s meeting agenda: "To participate in the public comment period, please call the following number and leave an audio message: 910-581-3008.
