20 million women and growing, the numbers are clear that women are catching up.
In the last 50 years our society as a whole has taken a turn of “independence.” Women no longer automatically marry right out of high school and more and more women are choosing to live alone.
Once dependent on their father, brother or husband to “protect” the family, now women in large numbers are seeking ways to protect themselves. Gun ownership across the country has practically doubled for women owners during the last decade. Women owners are now topping 20 million (I think the number may be higher because when taking polls no one asked me) and is growing every day.
When a national magazine asked why women were buying guns the answer for more than 25% of them was easy, protection. Now I am no expert other than being a woman and a gun owner, but I think the number for that reason may actually be closer to 50%.
Every day women enter gun shops across America wanting to buy “their first” gun. Many women claim to have gone hunting with their fathers or brothers and most admit that even though they knew about long guns, pistols were a bit of a mystery.
The largest age group making the first purchase? 45-60. Surprised? Don’t be. The great news is that almost 73% of all women questioned stated that they have taken at least one class about firearms. Training and education is important to a new gun owner, regardless of age. Learning how to properly store and lock a firearm, how to clean and maintain a firearm and how to properly use a firearm is essential. Good job ladies!
Mark Robinson. Do you know who he is? Probably not by name but like thousands of people across the country you probably watched his very powerful speech on social media when he addressed the Greensboro city council when they attempted to cancel a gun show in their city. Unscripted, he stood and stated, with confidence and emotion, some very clear and simple points including how law abiding citizens should never be punished for the crimes of criminals. Mark Robinson announced in July that he will be running for Lt. Governor in North Carolina. His slogan, “Patriots, not Politicians,” Good luck Mr. Robinson, you’ve got my vote!
Remember knowledge is power and voicing your opinion may unite others who feel the same way, so be strong and confident and let what really matters to you be known.
