It is just a guess, but I have a feeling a local area beach is about to become the “butt” of several jokes. Recently a few complaints have been made in the town of Carolina Beach about the amount of “rear ends” that are visible when skimpy bikinis are being worn ( I presume by women but I won’t judge ). Even the life guards, these wonderful people who risk their lives so that over extending humans don’t drown while enjoying a day of sun and fun, are under scrutiny. Let me make one thing very clear — I don’t care if you are butt naked — if you save someone that I love (or even just met or don’t even know) from drowning you are a hero — exposed butt cheeks or not. Now of course to be fair several members of the council (I am guessing most male members) don’t see problem and are in fact considering changing the wording of the current code to remove buttocks and replace it with anus. Yuck — yes you read that correctly. By the time you read this the town’s public debate most likely already took place so look up the results! I can barely wait (ha ha).

With the school year about to come back to life those of us that drive on U.S. 17 (in any direction at anytime of day) will be cast back into the world of bumper to bumper chaos and complaints (mostly on Facebook). One thing I noticed recently that has seemed to have disappeared are Commuter Parking lots. Remember these? A simple concept that reduced traffic (and saved gas ) by 20% or more. How awesome it would be if people traveled together to work or shopping but alas the age of one person per car has indeed taken over. While driving through Hampstead this year, turn to your right. Is anyone in your passenger seat? Just a thought.

10 day waiting periods, written permission (from some yet to be determined agency) to purchase an AR-15 style semi automatic rifle, limiting magazine capacity and restricting the amount of ammunition a law abiding adult can purchase — these are not out of “unAmerican California politicians mouths – these are comments pertaining to North Carolinians. Should you be concerned? I think so. Too many times laws are created and passed when the general population thinks someone Is out there protecting our rights. Don’t believe me? Just ask people that live in Maryland.

Blue/green algae is killing area dogs and has the potential to make children very ill. Unlike most photos being circulated the water itself does not have to appear murky with growth. Instead of a swim in the lake, how about a nice kiddie pool this year. No one wants to see a child or pet sick or dying from a cooling swim or from playing by the water. Our planet is warning us I’m afraid.

A family that lost three of their wonderful dogs within hours is making it their mission to put up signs warning of this bacterial invasion at Wilmington area lakes and ponds.

Remember knowledge is power, commuting together may be something you can consider and over reaching laws to punish law abiding citizens is not the way to punish criminals.
