SURF CITY — A Sneads Ferry woman was killed Saturday morning in a head-on collision on N.C. 50 that critically injured her 2-year-old son, according to a Surf City Police Department release.
Robin Blankenship died at the scene of the wreck near 14210 N.C. 50, according to the release, which said police were dispatched to the scene at 9:30 a.m.
Blankenship and her son were in a Toyota Prius when a Jeep Wrangler driven by Travis Luckinbill, of Raleigh, crossed the center line, causing the collision, the release stated. The boy was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC), where his status is unknown, according to the Surf City release.
Luckinbill and a passenger were also transported to NHRMC, the release said.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing, the release stated, but charges against Luckinbill are pending.
Agencies that assisted with the accident included the Surf City Fire Department, Pender County EMS, the Pender County Fire Department, N.C. State Highway Patrol, N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement and the Pender County Sheriff's Office.
