1. World Cup finals
After a month of world-class soccer, the moment of truth is finally here: the World Cup final. The game is Sunday at 11 a.m. EDT on FOX. There will be plenty of pre-game content to watch, too, so set aside your afternoon for what many around the world call the greatest single game in sports.
2. Head to the zoo
Sunday marks the beginning of National Zoo Keeper Week, an occasion to recognize the contributions of zookeepers. Locally, Lynnwood Park Zoo at 1071 Wells Road in Jacksonville is open Friday - Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children 2 - 12. Cash or check only. 3. Eat fries
National French Fries Day is also on Sunday. YUM. You can make your own (they’re relatively easy if you’re careful), head to your favorite restaurant that serves fries or hold a “best fries” contest. Some local and national restaurants are even giving out free orders of fries.
4. Catch Wimbledon or Tour De France

5. Free concerts
There are multiple opportunities to catch a concert for free this weekend.
Onslow County Public Library will host the Onslow Winds Jazz Ensemble at 6:30 p.m. July 13 at the Sneads Ferry Branch Library, 1330 N.C. 210 and at 1 p.m. July 14 at the Richlands branch library, 299 N. Wilmington Street. The concerts are part of the summer reading program, Libraries Rock. The Jacksonville Commons Amphitheater, 1300 Commons Drive North, will host Southern Trouble from 7 to 9 p.m. July 13
6. Outdoor movie
This month's movie in the park at Onslow Pines Park, 1244 Onslow Pines Road, will be Moana. Games and activities kick off at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at sunset. Coolers welcome, no glass containers. Bring a blanket or chair.
7. Honor veterans
The Ron Relay Memorial Ride will take place at New River Harley Davidson from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 14. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Fees are $20 per bike with $5 for a passenger. Proceeds go to POW/MIA issues, veterans and Wreaths Across America. For more information visit rollingthundernc5.com.
8. Bubble fun
A Bubble Bash will be held at Phillips Park, 150 Phillips Road in Jacksonville, from 10 a.m. to noon July 14. Free. Have fun blowing and popping your own bubbles, making a bubble wand, creating crafts and face painting.
