Reminders during this gift giving season.
.22 rifles are very popular gifts this time of year but there are some simple things to remember if you received (or gave) one of these items.
1st – Know what kind of ammunition the firearm takes. A .22 rifle (a popular item for young people) generally uses .22 long rifle, the most popular of the .22 ammos, but there are also .22 short and .22 long ammos. There is a huge difference between .22 long rifle and .22 magnum. Where most rifles and revolvers will use most brands of .22 ammo, semi-automatic pistols like Walther P22s or Ruger’s SR22 are picky. Most local gun shops can steer you in the right direction for the best ammo for your needs.
2nd – Make sure that a knowledgeable adult is present when you are learning how to use your rifle.
3rd – Remember to ALWAYS point your firearm in a safe direction and NEVER put your finger on the trigger until ready to shoot. Rule of thumb is to ALWAYS consider a firearm loaded.
4th - Hearing protection and eye protection are not optional. Be careful and protect yourself.
5th – Learning how to clean and properly store your firearm is crucial.
Acts of kindness
A local woman who worked on Christmas day, while so many others enjoyed time with family and friends, received an unexpected act of kindness when a customer purchased a gift card and gave it to her to say thank you. How awesome is that?
A local family, who has put in too many hours to count of hard work for months, gave everyone an opportunity to see a holiday light show worthy of a paid venue for free. What did they ask in exchange? That visitors drop a toy in their collection box. The result? Over 300 gifts given this holiday season.
Acts of kindness don’t have to cost any money or take anything away from your daily routine, but it is said that an act of kindness, even as simple as a hug, can generate a healthier you.
Remember knowledge is power, being kind is free and it is always better to ask advice then to make a mistake, especially when it comes to the right ammo for your firearm.
