NEWPORT | Two adults who had been reported missing in Carteret County were found Monday morning after a search in the Croatan National Forest.

"Both subjects have been located, are alive, and are being transported to Carteret Health Care for exposure to the elements," Chief Detective Jason Wank with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office said via email.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office issued a missing person bulletin Sunday night seeking information on the welfare of Casey Burroughs, 21, and Briana Wallace, 21.

In a Monday morning update, the sheriff’s office indicated a third search, including air support, was being conducted at the end of Sand Hills Drive off Gales Creek Road, which is off Nine Mile Road in Newport. A location borders a large portion of Croatan National Forest.

The search was focused on this area after the vehicle that Burroughs and Wallace were operating was located abandoned at the end of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

No further details have been released.
