A Surf City chef will represent the region in a state showdown next month.

Chef Bud Taylor of the Bistro at Topsail was selected to compete in the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association’s 2017 Chef Showdown, according to a restaurant spokeswoman.

He was one of 16 chefs selected for the competition. Taylor will have a station representing the Bistro at Topsail, cooking for a crowd of more than 300 and creating tapas-sized portions to a panel of six culinary judges.

The showdown will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Aug. 21 at Raleigh's historic downtown City Market. For more information and for tickets to attend, visit
