Several free fishing events for kids are planned around the area next month.

Kids will be able to fish for free and register for prizes, including two lifetime fishing licenses, as part of the events supported by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and U.S. Forest Service as part of National Fishing and Boating Week.

Two events are scheduled in Onslow County on June 4 from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be a Kids’ Fishing Day at Orde Pond aboard Camp Lejeune for youth 15 and younger. Contact 910-451-9384 for more information.

A Youth Fishing Derby will also be held at Jacksonville Training Academy for kids 5 to 13. Contact 910-347-5332 for more information.

On June 11 in Carteret County, kids can cast a line from 9 a.m. to noon at Cedar Swamp Pond off Hibbs Road in the Newport area. The event is for kids ages 5 to 15. Contact James Cherry at 252-638-5628 for more information.
