The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has a quick fix for their energy crisis: Women need to stop using hair dryers. Air dry, please — he claims it looks better anyway.

North Carolina Senator Republican Tommy Tucker, chairman of the North Carolina Senate’s State and Local Government Committee may now be best known for his quote “I am the Senator. You are the citizen. You need to be quiet.”

Oddly enough he was just re-elected. Shame on us.

Just in case you weren’t tired of endless war, President Obama just lifted the restriction against selling weapons to Vietnam. I’m sure China won’t notice this odd act.

The Town of Holly Ridge considers tall grass and wild flowers over 10 inches tall a “health hazard” worthy of a violation. Based on this information, you need to close your windows or stop breathing. Those poor people on motorcycles! It’s always nice when a town becomes a homeowners association.

Politicians do not belong in the classroom or at the doctor’s office. Those are specialty places designed to make a person better.

The job of a politician should be to find ways to improve the lives of those they represent, not to worry about raising money for re-election. It is speculated that 45 percent of a politician’s office time is raising funds or learning how to raise funds. Is that what we voted them in for? What a waste.

We don’t have a wage problem, we have an employee problem. As an employer it is difficult to find a good employee — a person who is on time, polite, works hard and stays off their phone during work hours (unless you work at a phone store of course) is a rare and valuable asset to any business.

As an educated taxpayer, I share the frustrations of everyone who has ever wanted to be heard by a politician or a political group (such as a town council) without feeling frustrated and disrespected. We need to demand more of them, we need to remind them they work for US not the other way around.

Remember knowledge is power and your voice is not to be ignored — so use it.
