I consider our local area to be from Jacksonville to Wilmington. Why? Because if I heard that a crazy person was on the loose meaning to do harm in any of those areas I would be on alert!
Well, our local area had several tragic losses this past week, it seems like every day we are learning of the passing of someone “too young” or “too kind;” but unlike in the past when people took mourning very seriously, we now just a few minutes to process the information and then we must move on. That’s pretty sad if you ask me.
Last week my tail feathers got ruffled when I heard about a 5-year-old little girl who was suspended from school for playing with a stick at recess. A STICK, people. Say it with me: A STICK. Unfortunately, for this child who was using her imagination while playing princess and kingdoms with her little (children) friends, a grown up took that wicked, evil, horrible stick and interpreted it as a gun and not just any gun, a tiny gun designed to kill little children in this magical kingdom. Holy crap, people, enough already! I was most disgusted when I learned that this event, most common in the “Un-American” states of New York or California, in fact happened here, in our precious state of North Carolina.
I would like to call a protest where each and every one of us left with common sense ( please tell me you are one of those few people ) should attend the very next Board of Education meeting and demand to open handedly slap any and every adult involved until common sense is knocked back into them. Yes, I said it, slap them until they wake up. Am I promoting violence? I think in fact what I am calling for is for people to stop being stupid and letting such dumb things influence our lives in any way, shape or form.
Okay, I’m off my soap box.
In the news today is a lot of chatter about what our politicians are working on.
I, for one, am strongly opposed to a person being “sworn” in as a notary public if they are in fact NOT a citizen of the United States. Why, you ask? Easy: Because the oath you take says that you are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States. Hmmmm, sounds simple enough to me, but what do I know?
Colorado has proved that legalizing marijuana for personal use has not destroyed civilization as we know it (sorry, folks, but it hasn’t). Let’s cut the crap, put it in the same category as alcohol or cigarettes (neither are good for you and you legally can’t drive while drunk so what’s the difference?) and tax it and let’s really use those funds for our badly underpaid teachers – unlike the imaginary money from lotto. Let us get all those potheads out of jail and put the rotten rapists, murders, doctors who prescribe opiates like candy creating a massive decline in our young male/female population, crooked politicians (we all know at least one) and violent people who harm others in jail where THEY belong.
Remember, knowledge is power, people do matter, loss hurts and so does stupidity so each of us need to take the time to help someone in need, whether it’s a hug or sharing valuable information. If you feel overwhelmed, turn up the radio and dance your troubles away! (Like we did in the old days).
