FAYETTEVILLE - SFC (Ret.) John Robert Duffer Jr., 89, died April 17, 2017 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. The Funeral will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 12 p.m. The family will receive friends from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the service in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. He served in the US Merchant Marine during WWII. He also was in the US Army for 20 years and served in Korean conflict and the Vietnam War and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Commendation Medal and several Service Medals. He was also retired from E.I. DuPont Chemical Company and worked at the Fayetteville Works for many years. He is survived by his sons, John Duffer III of Charleston, SC and Michael Lee Duffer of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Cameron Duffer, Matthew Duffer, John Duffer IV and Heather Duffer Sharkey and great-grandchildren, Elijah Duffer, Aiden Sharkey, Connor Sharkey, Declan Sharkey and Lyra Moon.
