WILMINGTON — Fans of the locally filmed CBS series “Under the Dome,” and the area’s film industry in general, will get to peek behind the curtain when EUE/Screen Gems Studios reopens its public tours this weekend.

The one-hour walking tours begin at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and take guests around the 10-stage lot, including the opportunity to visit sets used for “Under the Dome,” now filming its second season.

“The timing to just great to reopen the tours; and the ‘Under the Dome’ folks have been really receptive to the idea of being involved,” said Pam Stilwell, tour director.

Stilwell has assembled a team of 10, including film and theater undergraduates and recent graduates from University of North Carolina Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College, to act as tour guides.

“The guides have an in-depth understanding of the film industry, so it will be a treat for the guests. A lot of them have worked as extras on local production and can add a new dimension to the tour,” Stilwell said.

The lot’s screening room — where directors, actors and producers screen footage shot at the studio — also will be a stop on the tour, where guests will watch a six-minute short video about the history of the studio.

Each tour will be able to accommodate approximately 100 people. Stilwell expects at least 1,000 guests will take the tour through May, based on recent reaction and interest the studio received.
