Pender County Library Director Mike Taylor was the speaker at the September kickoff luncheon for the Historical Society of Topsail Island.
Over the next 60 years or so, settlers from England, Barbados, Germany, and Switzerland settled in various North Carolina areas, including Pamlico Sound, New Bern, Cape Fear, Wilmington and Rocky Point. In 1732 the beginning of development for the settling of Wilmington started.
All of this history can be found at the new library annex for genealogy and local history named the W. Dallas Herring Carolina Heritage Research Collection. The public is invited by the Pender County Board of Commissioners and the Pender County Public Library and Trustees to attend the opening celebration on Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. The location is 103 South Cowan St., Burgaw, North Carolina.
