Last week I followed a compelling story about firearm manufacturers and suppliers who are now refusing to sell firearms to law enforcement agencies (and individuals) in states where law abiding citizens are now prohibited from those very same firearms. This is a stand of unity that should come as a moment of awaking for our politicians. What should be an eye opener is that this list has increased by 700 percent in the last few days.
In a letter written by Ronnie Barrett, chairman and CEO of Barrett Firearms, he states that “Barrett opposes those who are illegally disarming the American public from their efficient arms and creating superior armed elitist government agencies.”
This is a powerful statement.
It is very simple to say that the rights of American law abiding citizens are being stripped away at a pace like no other time in history. It is frightening and alarming, and some people are waking up to the realization that we Americans need to start using our voices to stand up for law abiding gun owners across America.
Unfortunately, the political wheel has touched close to home for me too; and once again I feel that our constitutional rights are being infringed upon.
On March 12 at 7 p.m. the Town of Holly Ridge board members will determine the fate of the outdoor range that we use for NRA Safety Class, N.C. Conceal and Carry Classes and for use by our Surf City Gun Club members. We are saddened by this turn of events and hope that all of you in the area will come to show your support for this range and the wonderful courses taught there.
The property in question is not in the Holly Ridge city limits and is listed as “unincorporated Onslow County.” The property is low and wet pasture land and not suitable for housing complexes and bordered by woodlands, pastures and the Surf City Sewer Treatment Plant.
Our private range hours are limited, our classes are primarily on weekends and any usage is completely weather compliant (not too wet, not to cold, not to hot, etc.) Holly Ridge is home to several ranges (Holly Ridge PD, Surf City PD — both in close proximity to our property — and the VFW). Holly Ridge and the surrounding areas are blessed with the sounds of freedom day and night. We have a military artillery range, a tank range, a helicopter landing base, two airport landing strips and a major highway that connects Jacksonville to Wilmington with nonstop traffic.
Our goal is that private citizens have the same rights and abilities as government and law enforcement.
It’s time for our voices to be heard and not ignored. The town meeting that will determine our constitutional rights is being held on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m. This is your chance to use your voice to say enough is enough. Will you stand with us?
