The newly named interim executive director for the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce would like to see the position become permanent.

The board of directors named Tammy Proctor interim director Oct. 22 following Craig Stinson’s Oct. 17 resignation from the position. Proctor will hold the position for approximately 120 days but has plans of applying for the permanent position.

She said she wants to bring value to the chamber membership by making sure businesses don’t feel like they are part of a booster club through more networking opportunities, discounts and other programs yet to be developed, she said.

Stinson's resignation, according to Proctor, was the result of personnel issues. She would not provide additional details.

The board, according to Proctor, will need to approve the programs she wants to implement, but her big plan is to give members “the ultimate benefit.”

“We want to enhance the benefits,” Proctor said. “We’d like to see more than just hanging out at the restaurant ... to learn from each other and benefit ... by working with each other business to business.”
