Second Amendment must be protected in gun control fight

What does the Second Amendment of The Constitution of the United States of America mean to you?

This topic has been tossed around since before the terrible tragedies that have plagued our country by mentally unfit individuals have taken place, and I have no doubt, it will continue to be discussed for years to come.

When I bring up this question to fellow members of my community, I get one resounding response that trumps all other. The second amendment gives the citizens of the United States of America the right to protect itself against a corrupt government. Wow. When I read the Second Amendment, it is quite simple.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to  Keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. “

Perhaps these folks are right. This amendment does not focus solely on an individual’s right to protect themselves, which most certainly everyone believes in, but also states that a well regulated militia being a necessity to the security of a free state .
