A hunting we may go …

This week I would like to follow up on the proposal for PenderCountyhunters to be able to use silencers on hunting rifles. This proposal was put forth by Hunting and Wildlife and is making its way to possibly becoming a North Carolinalaw. The three readings in the N.C. Senate all passed, and it has taken on the first reading in the House and is still going.

As I covered in my previous article, adding a silencer to a rifle is not a cheap thing to do ($600 to $900) and can take several months for approval, but the option of having a silencer on a hunting rifle is still on the table.

When I pulled up the N C Senate Bill 201 I was intrigued to see it stated clearly that “weapons of mass death and mass destruction” were not included.  Weapons of death? Isn’t a hunting rifle supposed to kill the target? I’m a bit confused by the wording, but when I researched the definition of “weapons of death and mass destruction” I learned a lot.

The term "weapon of mass death and destruction" includes:

Any explosive or incendiary:

a. Bomb; or

1 2 3 4 5
