Rice Festival
Palnning is underway for the 1st annual North Carolina Rice Festival to celebrate the region’s rice growing history with our presenting sponsor the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce. The festival will be held at The Brunswick Riverwalk at Belville, 580 River Road, on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a rice cooking contest, arts and crafts, commercial vendors, children’s entertainment zone, youth art contest and an adult beverage tent. Entertainment includes the Imitations playing a variety of beach, soul and rock & roll from 1 5 p.m. Sept. 20 and the Unknown Tongues Cajun Zydeco Music on Sept. 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. Entry fee is $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free. Coolers are not permitted.

The Sneads Ferry Community Theatre will hold open autditions for The Dixie Swim Club, a Jones, Hope, Wooten comedy about friendships that last forever. Five women are needed to portray characters who age from 45 to 80 years old. Auditions will be held July 15 and 17 at 7 p.m. in the The Sneads Ferry Community Center, 126 Park Lane.
