The Town of Surf City will celebrate the end of summer with the Roberts Band at 6 p.m. and fireworks at dusk at Soundside Park on Aug. 29. Concessions will be offered by Surf City Fire Department and Auxiliary as a fundraiser. 
Parking lot sale
Faith Harbor United Methodist Church and The Thrift Store will sponsor a parking lot sale and barbecue dinner (eat in or take-out) on Aug. 30. The sale begins at 7:30 a.m. Dinners, which are $7.50 per plate and include barbecue, potato salad, coleslaw and roll, will be offered at 10 a.m. The United Methodist Youth Group will also be having a car wash fundraiser from 10 to noon to off-set expenses for annual mission trip. The church is located at 14201 N.C. 50 in Surf City. For more information, call 910-328-4422.
Weed management class
Pender Extension Master Gardener volunteer David Hull will lead a weed identification class on Sept. 2 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Pender County Library, Hampstead Branch, 75 Library Drive.
