1. Grassroots Arts Program: Harnett County is accepting applications for 2018-19 subgrants from the Grassroots Arts Program. Grant amounts start at $500 and may be used for a variety of program expenses, including professional artists’ fees and travel, space rental and costumes. Eligible organizations must have been in operation for at least a year. For an application or for more information, contact Brian Haney at bhaney@harnett.org or 910-893-7555. The deadline for applications is July 27. Applications may be delivered to the Harnett County Manager’s Office at 420 McKinney Parkway, Lillington, or mailed to Harnett County Manager’s Office, Attn: Grassroots Subgrants, c/o Brian Haney, P.O. Box 759, Lillington, NC 27546.

2. Free dental clinic: Volunteers are needed to help with a free dental clinic Aug. 3-4 at the Crown Arena. Patients who qualify for the free care may receive X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions or partials for front teeth. The clinic is sponsored through the N.C. Missions of Mercy. Volunteers are needed to help with setup on Aug. 2 and to work in the clinic for patient treatment the other two days. Volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants and laboratory technicians also are needed. Go to ncdental.org and follow the links to register as a volunteer.

3. Pinwheel Masquerade Ball: The Child Advocacy Center's fifth annual Pinwheel Masquerade Ball & Auction to Unmask Child Abuse is scheduled for Oct. 13 at the Metropolitan Room in downtown Fayetteville. The event will include mask contests, a DJ, dance demonstrations, silent auction, live auction with vacation packages, refreshments and more.
