We, the people of the United States of America, are strong believers in freedom, but what actually can we do with that freedom?
The First Amendment protects freedom of speech, but you can still be fired or scrutinized for voicing (or writing) your opinion.
The Second Amendment is always a hot controversy but did you know that just this week it was announced that a credit card processing company (INTUIT) has been refunding customer’s money who made purchases that the credit card company believes were firearms – without ANY warning to their customer, the gun shop owners. This is a complete and senseless breach of contract.
Do you own your property (with the help of a bank loan perhaps), have a swing set in the backyard your kids don’t use anymore, have a fence for a dog that prefers to stay on the couch? How would you feel if one day the town you lived in showed up and came onto your property (your private property) and mowed your lawn and then sent you a $300 bill plus expenses? What happened to your right to privacy and the right to your own property? Now if you live in a homeowners association it makes sense since you may have given up those rights, but for a town to do that to private property? Shameful.
Is that abuse of power? I think so. Maybe if people would show up to the town meetings and complain things like this would be removed.
The Town of Holly Ridge is looking over their proposed budget – as are many towns and cities including Surf City – and right now your input is vital.
For those of you that still believe in creativity and art as being an important part of life, a new arts and crafts fair has been started in Holly Ridge on Wednesday’s from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 127 Sound Road (across from the Holly Ridge Fire Department). Stop by and celebrate art, music, beauty and fresh veggies!
Remember knowledge is power, your voice does matter and we need to start getting our rights back and getting rid of too many rules that suffocate the law abiding citizen!
