CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A woman who federal officials say is in the country illegally is charged with involuntary manslaughter after a traffic accident in which a 14-month-old girl was killed.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 33-year-old Dora Del Carmen Sosa was released from the hospital on Tuesday and taken to jail, where she was served additional warrants charging her with felony child abuse and driving with no operators' license.

Police said Sosa changed lanes to pass a large truck and came upon a pickup truck stopped to turn left. Investigators said Sosa swerved around the pickup truck and into oncoming traffic, when she collided with a car head-on.

A preliminary investigation showed the child was in an infant carrier which wasn't properly restrained. Sosa's relationship to the child wasn't known.
