Family-owned Topsail Island restaurant Mainsail announced Tuesday it would close its doors for good after a lease termination.

The Pasquantonio family announced via Facebook it would close the restaurant after 15 years of service on Oct. 28.

"This surprise proved just as alarming for us," the post states. "In brief, due to stipulations and legal loopholes outside of our control, the property owners terminated our lease and instructed us to leave, forcing the closure."

The family, along with patriarch Art Pasquantonio, opened the restaurant on Topsail Island in 2002. Less than a year after the opening Art died from a brain tumor.

"As brothers and sons, we felt compelled to persevere and see our father’s plans and ideas continue and blossom," the post states. "Fast-forward to today – we extend a genuine, overwhelming thank you to a warm and wonderful community, and to our seasonal visitors who’ve become like family. We are forever indebted to all for years of patronage and support."

Patrons are encouraged to share memories and pictures of Mainsail on the restaurant's Facebook page.
