North Topsail leaders will discuss the New River hardened structure project at their regular meeting this week.
The Board of Aldermen will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
According to the company’s proposal, Dial Cordy and Associates, Inc. proposed a cost of $500,000 to “perform an environmental impact study, design alternatives and permit for the hardened structure located at the north end.” The document said the proposal was a match to the project’s $500,000 budget and the payment would be split 50-50 between Onslow County and the town of North Topsail Beach. The document also said $250,000 was covered in the Shoreline Fund budget.
The board will hear a presentation by Dial Cordy then consider approval and authorization to execute a contract, which is contingent on the town attorney and Onslow County’s approval.
The board will also continue a public hearing about the proposed text amendment. In September 2008, the board approved an amendment to the UDO, which exluded pools from the oceanfront setback. Some homeowners and realtors have compained about not being able to construct pools on their lots. The new amendment would allow for swimming pools within the CAMA setback, which allows for pools between the oceanfront setback requirements of Rule .0306(a) and the landward toe of the dune.
