Sean Astin will act as a surrogate for the presidential nominee at the local Democratic Coordinated Campaign office's phone bank kickoff event
WILMINGTON -- “The Lord of the Rings” and "Rudy" actor Sean Astin will visit Wilmington on Tuesday to campaign for Hillary Clinton.
Astin will act as a surrogate for the Democratic presidential nominee at the local Democratic Coordinated Campaign office's 7 p.m. phone bank kickoff event, the campaign confirmed Monday. The office is at 5041 New Centre Drive, Suite 109.
Coming just a day after Monday’s presidential debate, Astin’s visit will be used to discuss the importance of registering to vote by the Oct. 14 deadline and raising awareness of North Carolina's early voting process, which starts Oct. 20.
Following his visit to Wilmington, Astin will head to Fayetteville on Wednesday.
Astin has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood with early notable roles in "The Goonies," "Toy Soldiers" and "Memphis Belle." He played the hobbit Samwise Gamgee in the big-screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
Tuesday's event with Astin is open to the public.
