Camp Lejeune will host the annual Retiree Appreciation Day Saturday for retired military members and their spouses. Veterans and active duty Marines are also invited to attend.
The event will be held at Marston Pavilion aboard Camp Lejeune from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guest speakers will include Marine Corps Installations East Marine Corps Base command representation, Military Advisor Cornell Wilson with the Office of the Governor, Congressman Walter B. Jones and Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune command representation.
The event is a way to show appreciation to the retirees and their families for the sacrifices made during their service.
During the event there will be a health information fair that will provide retirees with blood pressure checks, skin cancer screening and dental exam as well as other health related activities.
The “Whitey” Welbourne Award will also be presented during the event, an award that is presented annually in memory of retired Gunnery Sgt. C.C. “Whitey” Welbourne who worked to help active duty personnel, retirees, family members, widows, survivors and veterans.
More than 300 veterans attended last year’s event, as previously reported by The Daily News.
The Defense Financing and Accounting Service will also be available to answer veterans’ questions.
