Finally, that time of the year that movie goers everywhere look forward to is here: Blockbuster Movie Season!
Usually this is the time when those big budget movies that fans have been clamoring for are released. But, May this year is a little lackluster since Avengers: Infinity War was moved to April. There are a couple of big movies with some picks to look at, however.
Stars: Anna Faris, Ava Longoria
The Plot: A spoiled, wealthy yacht owner is thrown overboard and becomes the target of revenge from his mistreated employee. A remake of the 1987 comedy.
The Scoop: It will be interesting to see how audiences will react to this movie being that most people probably don’t remember the original. There’s not a lot of middle ground for this comedy so it will either be a straight up hit or a complete dud. I do have to say it’s nice to see Anna Faris back on the big screen.
Life of the Party
Stars: Melissa McCarthy, Gillian Jacobs
The Plot: After her husband leaves her, longtime housewife Deanna decides to re-set things by going back to college, the same class and school as her daughter. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna embraces freedom, fun and frat boys at the expense of her daughter.
The Scoop: I would say McCarthy needs this to be a hit. Her last couple of films have been misses, making her less the hot commodity she used to be. Being it’s the second comedy of the month, it might struggle. But if she is on her best game, it could be a hilarious film.
Stars: Gabrielle Union, Billy Burke
The Plot: After her father passes away, a woman takes possession of his high-tech house in secluded countryside. Taking her children there for the weekend, things seem good. But after thieves show up, things turn deadly as she must save her kids from a madman.
The Scoop: This looks like a suspenseful film and could be a fun time at movies. With Burke playing the villain, which is something he is good at, I’ll have to check this one out. I would say this movie will be worth a Sunday matinee.
Stars: Ryan Reynolds, James Brolin
The Plot: There isn’t much known about the plot. We do know that a time traveling mutant named Cable has traveled back in time to stop a mutant who will bring about a bad future. Deadpool ends up being the only one who can protect the mutant from Cable.
The Scoop: This sequel to the 2016 hit has been greatly anticipated. The story has been kept on the downlow, but it involves some big comic characters that fans can’t wait to see. This movie will be big and a huge hit. If you like your action films to carry some crude humor worthy of an R rating, then you’ll want to catch Deadpool 2. If not, stay far away, because you will be disappointed. Also, this is a superhero film that is not for kids so, you might want to leave them at home.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Stars: Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem
The Plot: Not much is known about the plot. Looking at the early life of Han Solo, a series of escapades leads the smuggler down the road to Chewbacca. Along the way, he also comes across Lando Calrissian.
The Scoop: I personally can’t wait for this film! Han Solo has always been an interesting character and to finally see where he comes from is exciting. I hope it is done well; I believe it will be. Either way, fans will watch, and it will be a big hit for the month of May.
