1. Celebrate Hawaiian culture
A Hula Aloha Hula workshop will be held Feb. 11 at the Staybridge Suites in Jacksonville. Classes, for ages 10 and up, will include lessons on culture, Hawaiian words/languages and basic steps and body movements. Cost is $75 for the workshop or $40 each session. 2. Play with Legos
Onslow County Public Library hosts “Lego My Library” Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Main Library. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade can express their creativity and show their Lego building techniques from simple to advanced.
3. Watch Legos
If you enjoyed 2014’s “The Lego Movie” then you’re in for a treat this weekend as “The LEGO Batman Movie” (rated PG) is in theaters. Fans of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise or people looking for an early Valentine’s or Galentine’s date night idea the latest movie, “Fifty Shades Darker” (rated R) will be in theaters as well this weekend. If action movies are more your thing then check out Keanu Reeves’ return to the criminal underworld to repay a debt in the R-rated flick “John Wick: Chapter 2.”
4. Explore the sky
Hammocks Beach State Park in Swansboro offers “Stars and Planets” at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at the visitor center. Use a telescope to explore the different planets and stars that appear in the sky at night. 5. Watch the Grammys
Sunday night the Grammy Awards will be broadcast on TV, and if you’re a fan of music, awards shows or this year’s host James Corden, you’ll want to tune in. The broadcast begins at 8 p.m. on CBS. 6. Decorate for Valentine’s Day
While Valentine’s Day isn’t until Tuesday, you could celebrate it early this weekend. Order flowers or candy now or reserve a spot at a nice restaurant. Families with children could have craft time this weekend to make Valentine’s Day cards and decorations.
7. Volunteer with your family
Volunteers are needed for a trail cleanup to be held from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 11 at Oakhurst Nature Park, 244 Riverbend Road, in Jacksonville. Help improve the community environment and local economy by cleaning native natural spaces and supporting a healthy and active lifestyle. SAT Hours for high school students. Supplies provided. 8. Celebrate Black History Month
Onslow County Public Library celebrates Black History Month with the movie, “Southside with You,” chronicling the first date of Barack and Michelle Obama in 1989, from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Main Library meeting room.
9. Watch a sports game
The Super Bowl is over, but there still are plenty of sports to watch on TV. The NBA and NHL will be in action all weekend, and there are international soccer games taking place, too.
