1. Attend Beaufort’s fall party

Beaufort Historical Association’s annual fall party will be held Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at 821 Front St. in Beaufort. The event features art by Fen Rascoe and music by Blue Moon Jazz. 2. Decorate for Halloween

3. Celebrate fall with Topsail Beach

The 28th annual Autumn with Topsail Festival will be Oct. 15-16 at The Historic Assembly Building, 720 Channel Blvd. in Topsail Beach. The event includes artists and crafts, live music, activities and rides for kids, food with alcoholic drinks, a silent auction and more. A one-day adult pass is $5 while a two-day pass is $8. 4. Check out your library for Teen Read Week

5. Go to Jacksonville’s Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest will be Oct. 15 3-6 p.m. at 2050 Steeplechase Court in Jacksonville. There will be homemade German food, bratwurst, sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, German potato salad. and dessert. 6. See a new movie

Among the movies opening this week are “The Accountant,” an R thriller starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal; “Kevin Hart: What Now?,” a documentary in which the comedian performs in front of a crowd of 50,000; and “Max Steel,” a PG-13 action-adventure flick about teenager Max McGrath and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel.

7. Take your dog on a run

Barktoberfest will be held Oct. 15 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Jacksonville Commons Park in Jacksonville. The event includes pumpkin decorating, a dog costume contest, kids games, a dog agility contest an adoption event, a Running to the Rescue 5k. Registration is $25 for ages 11 and older, $10 for ages five-11 and free for ages below five. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the race begins at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds from the event benefit Adoption First Animal Rescue. To sign up, visit Active.com.

8. Plan to see a space movie

Start planning now for attending one of the space-themed blockbusters and documentaries IMAX will show Oct. 14 – 20 at several AMC IMAX locations. Check amctheaters.com/imax-spaceweek to see if a theater near you is participating.

9. See a local production
