Stereo Jones to rock the Brass Pelican this Saturday

Stereo Jones To Play The Brass Pelican (And you can mark that down.)

We've all seen a band at a bar before. And we've all seen a white marker board. But most of us have never seen to the two put together in such a place. That's just one of the many fun things you'll see when the musical group Stereo Jones is performing. That marker board is a way for fans of the band to write on the board during the show, as a lead up into a segment of the show known as "Create a Song." During a typical Stereo Jones show, once the crowd writes enough material on the board, the band then turns it into a song.

The Newport, N.C. based duo has been staying busier than ever, pleasing crowds all over the country, but especially in Coastal North Carolina. After playing over 180 shows in 2008, it looks like the band is on pace to play for excited crowds more times than that in 2009. On Saturday, May 9, this fun-time rock band will be making a stop at the Brass Pelican, just one of about 20 concerts they will be performing during the month.

Chris Jones and Shawn "Swank" Mitchell comprise the duo known as Stereo Jones. They both contribute singing, playing guitar and writing the songs. They also take pride in their cover songs. They are known for playing rocks songs that are true to the sound of bands from the 1960s to today. They can transition from a 40 year old Rolling Stones song into a Nickelback song that is currently on the charts with such ease that the crowd goes right along with them.

While the band can play a variety of different sounding music, the two men that form it are also from different places. Jones is a native of Seattle, while Mitchell considers himself a local boy. What they do have in common is that they both have been playing in bands all over the world for two decades.

While they have both played in numerous bands too long too list, it is interesting to note that when these men are playing a cover song, there's a good chance that they are performing a song that was originally created by superstars that the band knows personally. That's because Jones has opened up for such legends as Ted Nugent, Night Ranger, Bad Company and Lisa Loeb. Mitchell has an equally impressive list of names he can drop as people who have followed him on stage: this list includes Saliva, L.A. Guns, Puddle of Mudd and Seven Mary Three.

Fans and soon-to-be fans who come out to Saturday's show at the Brass Pelican will get to see first hand what the band is most proud of: their live show. It's described by so many as good time and a funny time. The band takes pride in their sense of humor that they display along with their music during the show and the fact that the audience gets so involved in the show.

The Brass Pelican is located on Highway 210 in Surf City. The good times begin at Saturday night on May 9, and they don't end until the last word is written on the marker board.

Well surfers and surfettes, a wise man told me that it's an ill wind that blows no good -won't shift - and I have had enough of this south wind. That being said, it looks like we will have a south swell and a south wind for the next 3 to 4 days. The wave height should be in the 3 to 4 foot range for the next day or two, but the weekend is looking up with the best day being Sunday. The wind should be shifting out of the north west, so pray for the clean up!

There have been some nice little nuggets found at Serenity Point over the past few days, but you have to know your tides, so stop by the shop and pick up a chart.

All right, the first of the week is looking kinda small: 2 to 3 feet. Wednesday and Thursday the wind will be coming out of the south again, so it will be the same game plan blowing hard until the evening. Have fun and work on those rights!
