Fourth of July happenings
Fourth of July celebrants seeking amusements and sunset light shows - bangs included - can choose from the following community celebrations.
Surf City July 3rd Independence Day Celebration - Surf City kicks off its Fourth of July celebration a day early, with a concert beginning at 6 p.m. by Mark Roberts and Breeze, followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. at Surf City's Soundside Park near the Surf City drawbridge.
Shuttle service is available. No coolers or alcoholic beverages are permitted, and those attending should bring chairs or blankets.

Sneads Ferry Fourth of July Fireworks Jubilee - Sneads Ferry festivities begin at 7 p.m. July 4 at the Sneads Ferry Community Center at 126 Park Lane. A concert by Veronica Whaley and her Alibi precede the fireworks scheduled for 9 p.m. Recently crowned 2008 Shrimp Queens will be in attendance at the festival to meet and greet the public. VFW Post 9983 will receive weathered American Flags for proper retirement. Food concessions are available. No pets are allowed.
Holly Ridge Fireworks in the Park - Holly Ridge will hold its celebration July 4, at Holly Ridge Municipal Park on Sound Road. Anita Dingler, parks and recreation director said concessions will be available at 6 p.m. with hot dogs, funnel cakes and ice cream. Entertainment by last year's winners of the Holly Festival talent show precedes the fireworks at 7 p.m. Fireworks start around 9 p.m.
July Fourth Celebration at Camp Lejeune - Camp Lejeune's celebration begins at 5 p.m. July 4, at W.P.T. Hill Field aboard Camp Lejeune.
Country singer Lee Ann Womack and musical artists Jace Everett and the Karg Brothers will perform with fireworks following the concert.
Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Community Services is sponsoring the event which is free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the event will be held July 5.

Onslow Pines Park's July Fourth Freedom Festival - Onslow Pines Picnic in the Park begins at 2 p.m. July 4, and ends with the fireworks display, scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
Onslow County Parks and Recreation is hosting this family festival and picnic in the park which includes rides for the children, a petting zoo, concessions, karaoke at 2 p.m. and live music by The Four Knights from 5:30 to 9:15.
