Independence Day celebration

Surf City style

The opening ceremony for the annual Surf City fireworks show got underway Thursday, July 3 when Surf City Mayor Zander Guy welcomed and recognized guests. Mayor Pro-Tem Doug Medlin presented the invocation and Councilman Michael Curley led the Pledge of Allegiance. The presentation of colors by the Hampstead American Legion Post 167 was followed by the patriotic music of Mark Roberts & Breeze Band.

From this reporter's estimates, Surf City's fireworks show hailed some 5,000 people including those lounging and socializing at Soundside Park and those in the waters surrounding the park. Melrose Pyrotechnics of South Carolina provided fireworks.
