‘Save 2nd Base’ fundraiser



The Brass Pelican is hosting its sixth annual “Save 2nd Base” fundraiser.



“Save 2nd Base” will be held Sept. 1 at the Brass Pelican to benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Reel Housewives of Topsail Island and includes food, raffles, auctions, car wash, music and more.



The Brass Pelican is also hosting two other events in conjunction with “Save 2nd Base.”  On Aug. 17 several prominent members of TopsailIslandwill be “arrested” and held at the Brass Pelican Jailhouse from 4to 6pm.  The “bail” that they raise will all go to the fight against breast cancer. And on Aug. 24, The Brass Pelican is holding the second annual “Miss” Brass Pelican beauty pageant, a womanless beauty pageant that also benefits “Save 2nd Base.”

CMN benefit



SurfCityFood Lion is planning a day of fun to benefit Children’s Miracle Network.



The benefit festival, to help support the CMN Children’s Hospital, will be held at SurfCityParkon Aug. 24 from 11 a.m.to 5 p.m.There will be a karaoke contest, food vendors, face painting, bounce house and more.                     



 



Chicken dinner



SneadsFerryUnitedMethodistChurchwill host a Chicken Dinner from 5to 6:30 p.m.on Aug. 29.



 



Firearm instruction



SurfCity Guns and Ammo will be hosting upcoming firearm instruction.



NC Conceal and Carry Class will be held Aug. 17 from 8:30 a.m.to 5:30 p.m.Handgun, Ammo, protective eye- and ear wear are required.  Rentals may be available. Space is limited. Call 910-328-4499 to reserve a seat.



NRA FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility and Safety Training) Steps Pistol Orientation will be held Aug. 24 from 2to 6 p.m.The class is the NRA’s pistol orientation program for beginners and new purchasers, and includes sitting and standing shooting lessons. Cost is $55.  Ammo and protective eye and ear wear are required. Call 910-328-4499 to reserve a seat.



 



Autumn with Topsail volunteers



Serena Hibbard is looking for a co-chair and volunteers to assist with the upcoming children’s activities in the AssemblyBuildingduring Autumn with Topsail 2013. The co-chair will be assisting Serena in coordinating activities for the event. Volunteers will be assisting in shifts during the days of the event at craft stations. Caregiver support group



Family members, friends and caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia are invited to a family caregiver support group on the second Thursday of each month.



Caregivers will have the opportunity to meet other people facing the same circumstances, discuss challenges and receive support.

Outdoor yoga



A full slate of outdoor yoga classes will greet residents and visitors to SurfCity’s beach strand this summer.



nSunrise Yoga is continuing every Wednesday morning in August at 6:15 a.m.Bring sheets or large towels instead of mats. The cost is $10, and the class meets at the Roland Avenue Beach Access in SurfCity.



nFull Moon Yoga will take place just before sundown on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.Meet at Roland Avenue Beach Access. The cost is $10.



nStand Up Paddleboard Yoga is being taught Aug. 17 at 9 a.m.at On Shore Sports in FishingVillageon the Causeway. The cost is $35, or $20 if you bring your own paddleboard



Non-members of SurfCityCommunity Centerpay an additional $5 guest fee for these programs. Classes will only take place if a minimum sign up in advance and are scheduled weather permitting.
