The Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area, continuing its long standing commitment to the young people of Onslow and Pender counties, has awarded four scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to graduating seniors at Dixon and Topsail High Schools. The recipients of these scholarships were recognized at a Kiwanis Scholarship Breakfast reception held May 28 at the Surf City Welcome Center.


SURF CITY — The Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area, continuing its long standing commitment to the young people of Onslow and Pender counties, has awarded four scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each to graduating seniors at Dixon and Topsail High Schools. The recipients of these scholarships were recognized at a Kiwanis Scholarship Breakfast reception held May 28 at the Surf City Welcome Center.



This year’s recipients are Julia Horiates and Caitlin Trexel from Dixon High School and Adam Crowell and Zachary Thorpe from Topsail High School.



Additionally, the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area awarded two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each to graduating seniors who are grandchildren of current members of the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island Area. The recipients of these scholarships are Rebecca Combs of Charlotte, who is the granddaughter of Larry and Jane Combs, and Andrew Feyka of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who is the grandson of Barry and Sue Newsome.



These scholarship awards recognize academic achievement and service. Funding for these scholarships comes from fundraising activities conducted throughout the year by the Topsail Kiwanis Club. The Topsail Island Area Kiwanis Club and the Topsail Island Kiwanis Foundation work jointly to award these scholarships.
