SURF CITY — Yogis and Yoginis will greet the dawn every Wednesday morning all summer long with special sunrise yoga classes on the beach.  Regular certified instructors from Surf City Community Center will lead the classes, weather permitting, with one hour-classes on Wednesdays from May 29 to Aug. 25.

Fallon Normyle, recently arrived from Hawaii, will lead the initial class with Amanda Brennan, Linda Carlsen and Steve Unger rotating in throughout the summer.  Other instructors may also participate. May and June classes will be at 5:30 a.m., July classes at 5:45 a.m. and August classes at 6:15 a.m. A minimum of two pre-paid registrations are needed for a class to take place. All participants should check in at the Roland Avenue Beach Access and, in place of mats, bring sheets or large towels along with water.

The cost is $10 with an additional $5 guest fee for those who are not members of Surf City Community Center. To reserve a spot and assure a class, fees should be pre-paid at the Community Center, 201 Community Center Drive, using check or cash.  In case of inclement weather, fees will be returned.

“Sunrise yoga is becoming a tradition on the beach in Surf City and we are glad to have such an outstanding group of teachers to lead us through another season,” Surf City Parks & Recreation Director Kristie Grubb said.  “We are fortunate to have a full slate of classes both at the Community Center and in other locations. We will also be announcing more special yoga events soon.”
