This month’s luncheon meeting of the Historical Society of Topsail Island focused on two very special seniors from Topsail High School who were the recipients of the scholarships. It is a difficult process to choose the seniors, and the winners are judged “blind” based on the initial criteria met and a project they must complete. The projects could be based on art, music or a written essay, all historical in nature. The initial criteria consists of a GPA average above 3.0, community service and letters of recommendation. Once that has been met, their project is evaluated by the Historical Society’s Education Committee. The recipients, both from Topsail High School, are Noelle Watson, who will be attending Wingate University, and Madeline Morris, who will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
