Topsail Basketball Association Tournament Play started last Sunday, and through the week, 32 quarter-final, semifinal and championship games were played with championship teams being recognized and awarded with championship trophies throughout the week.

In the Co-Ed 1st and 2nd grade division, both 84 Lumber and ShipOnSite both posted semifinal wins, earning them the right to face off against each other in the championship game staged on Tuesday evening.  Two very well-coached teams played the game right down to the wire while area fans, parents, grandparents and brothers and sisters alike created standing-room only pandemonium in the Topsail Middle School Auxiliary Gym. ShipOnSite outlasted a very scrappy and determined 84 Lumber squad 35-31 to take home the Co-Ed Championship Trophies.



In the Boys’ 3rd and 4th grade division, three quarter-final games played on Feb. 24 saw Surf City Dental, Carolina Scratch Repair and Brett Adams Homes all advance to the semifinal rounds played on Feb. 26.  League leader Discovery Place Child Care ousted the Brett Adams Homes squad, while Carolina Scratch Repair eked out a narrow 25-22 victory to advance to the championship round on Friday night.  Friday night came, and the auxiliary gym was bursting at the seams with fans and team supporters, and what they saw was a great contest between two well-coached teams, with the Discovery Place Child Care Center squad outlasting a determined Carolina Scratch Repair team to take home Tournament Championship trophies and conclude a perfect undefeated 2012-2013 season at TBA.



In Girls’ 3rd through 5th Grade action, The Thomas Construction Group team posted a tournament win over Pender Pines Garden Center; and Blue Heron Landscapes picked up a win over Say It Loud Designs, both earning the right to square off in the divisional Championship Game on Friday night.  In the preliminary game on Friday evening — staged in front of a packed house with extra seating provided on the gymnasium stage area — the Thomas Construction Group entry hung tough and put up a victory over the Blue Heron Landscapes gals to earn the 2013 tournament championship in their respective school grade division.



The Boys’ 5th and 6th Grade eight-team division started tournament play on Monday evening, Feb. 25, with four teams seeing action, and the other four teams playing in quarter-final rounds on the 26th. Mancini Orthodontics, squeaking out a nail biter win over the Darden Agency, 21-20; Vehicle Tracking Service Corp.; The Bagel Bakery; and LAIFinancial.com all advanced to the semifinal rounds played on Saturday. Saturday rolled around and Mancini Orthodontics handed LAIFiancial.com a 29-21 defeat thus setting themselves up for an appearance in the championship game on Sunday against the undefeated bakers from the Bagel Bakery squad, who ousted Vehicle Tracking Systems Corp. from the tournament with a 24-11 win.  Sunday's championship game saw a well-coached Bagel Bakery squad defeat the Mancini Orthodontics team, 39-27, not only taking the Championship Trophy, but completing an undefeated season with an unblemished 12-0 record.



Action in the girls’ 6th grade through high school group, saw undefeated in regular season play Village Pharmacy advance to the championship round, along with Healthy Boundaries LLC, and win by 1 point in a thrilling overtime setting.  Sunday's championship game saw the Village Pharmacy gals protect their undefeated season and carry home the Tournament Championship trophy.



Thursday night the 7th and 8th grade boys took center stage in quarter-final rounds, and saw a strong display from the Scott's Hill Hardware & Supply aggregation ousting Cherubini Orthodontics and Sport Shots upending Custom Touch Drywall, Inc. 27-20. This matched Jacobi Hardware against the Colonial Building Materials entry in the Sunday finale. A tightly played contest until Jacobi Hardware put up big numbers in the 3rd quarter, and then held on to claim the victory and the Tournament Championship in the Boys’ 7th and 8th Grade Division.



The High School Grades 9-12 Boys started their tournament play on Friday evening with the guys representing the Hilton Garden Inn-Mayfaire playing smart basketball and getting past the Otereo Family Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry team with a 52-47 win. Network Distributors Lumber continued its tournament championship hopes by defeating Excel Air., Inc. 46-32.  In Saturday's semifinal round, Network Distributors Lumber continued its bid for the Tournament Championship by ekeing out an exciting double overtime 45-44 victory over Register's Auto Collision Services, while Hilton Garden Inn-Mayfaire accomplished their opportunity to play in the championship game on Sunday by upending the P.T.'s basketball squad.  In the Sunday closing game for this year’s TBA season, the boys representing the Hilton Garden Inn at Mayfaire piled up points in the final quarter to claim the High School Boys Tournament Championship.
